COUNTY COMPETITIONS 2021

ENTRIES ARE NOW BEING TAKEN FOR THE 2021 COUNTY COMPETITIONS WITH A CLOSING DATE OF FRIDAY 7TH MAY.  ENTRY FORMS HAVE BEEN SENT TO YOUR CLUB'S EXECUTIVE MEMBER AND MUST BE RETURNED TO THE COUNTY COMPETITION SECRETARY ALONG WITH THE ENTRY FEES ON OR BEFORE THIS DATE.

EACH CLUBS ENTRIES ARE TO BE PLAYED OFF IN-HOUSE TO A WINNER (BEFORE FRIDAY 11TH JUNE) WITH THE WINNER GOING THROUGH TO THE OPEN DRAW WHICH WILL BEGIN ON MONDAY 21ST JUNE. EACH CLUB CAN PLAY THEIR COMPETITIONS HOW THEY PLEASE, BUT EACH COMPETITION WILL BE PLAYED IN THE USUAL WAY AT THE KNOCKOUT STAGES (21-UP FOR BOTH SINGLES, 21 ENDS FOR THE OPEN PAIRS AND OPEN RINKS, AND 18 ENDS FOR THE OPEN TRIPLES AND SENIOR RINKS, SENIOR TRIPLES AND SENIOR PAIRS).

WE ARE STILL WAITING FOR THE WBA TO RELEASE THEIR FIXTURE CALANDER, BUT WE HAVE PROVISIONALLY PENCILLED IN COUNTY FINALS FOR FRIDAY 6TH AND SATURDAY 7TH AUGUST, BUT THIS COULD CHANGE.

LEAGUE

DUE TO COVID, LLANSANTFFRAID, CARNO, MAESYDRE AND ABDEDYFI HAVE DECIDED NOT TO TAKE PART IN MONTGOMERYSHIRE COMPETITIONS THIS YEAR, BUT TO PLAY THEIR BOWLS INTERNALLY.  WE WISH THEM ALL WELL IN THEIR IN-HOUSE LEAGUES AND IN-HOUSE COMPETITIONS AND WILL WELCOME THEM ALL BACK TO COMPETITIVE BOWLS IN 2022.

WITH CURRENT RESTICTIONS IN PLACE, THE LEAGUE WILL BE PLAYED DIFFERENTLY JUST FOR THIS YEAR.  TO MINIMISE THE AMOUNT OF TRAVELLING AND WITH PEOPLE OUTSIDE OF ONE ANOTHERS BUBBLES UNABLE TO TRAVEL IN THE SAME VEHICLE AT PRESENT, THE LEAGUE WILL BE SPLIT INTO 2 SECTIONS (EAST AND WEST) WITH EACH TEAM PLAYING 2 RINKS AT HOME AND 2 RINKS AWAY ON THE SAME EVENING.  THE SAME POINT STRUCTURE WILL BE USED AS NORMAL WITH EACH WINNING RINK WORTH 1 POINT OR 0.5 POINTS FOR A DRAW BUT THE 2 RINKS SCORES COMBINED WILL BE WORTH 1.5 POINTS (RATHER THAN THE USUAL 3 POINTS).

EAST - WELSHPOOL, BERRIEW, MONTGOMERY, KERRY, LLANFAIR.

WEST - MACHYNLLETH, MAGLONA, LLANIDLOES, NEWTOWN.

THE WINNERS OF EACH SECTION WILL THEN PLAY-OFF TO DETERMINE A WINNER.  ONCE AGAIN WE ARE WAITING ON THE WBA TO RELEASE THEIR CALANDER BUT WE HOPE TO BEGIN THIS LEAGUE FORMAT EARLY JUNE WHERE HOPEFULLY RESTRICTIONS ON CAR SHARING HAVE BEEN RELAXED.  THE LEAGUE WOULD ONLY BE PLAYED OVER A 5 WEEK PERIOD, BUT THIS IS LOOKED AS A "SOMETHING BETTER THAN NOTHING" SCENARIO.  HOPEFULLY WE WILL BACK TO NORMAL NEXT YEAR WITH 2 DIVISIONS PLAYED OVER A 14 WEEK SCHEDUE.

PLEASE KEEP AN EYE OUT ON THE WEBSITE FOR UPDATES OVER THE COMING WEEKS.

An Update from the President.

As you will all note from the message above from Paul, Alan, Paul and myself have been investigating ways in which we can look into the future and try and plan for this season. Alan will be contacting all the clubs to ascertain their plans for the season. We need to know which clubs will be taking part in any competitions that we can organise and in some cases, how many teams the club can put out. We hope to be able to have an executive meeting at the end of March, and by then all executive members will have in their possession the wide variety of formats that we might be looking to use this season and to able to discuss them with their members. The phrase 'we have always organised this way' has to be consigned to the history books. Being President has been a very frustrating experience but I think we must all accept that, for the foreseeable future, the games of bowls will have to look at new and creative ways to organise its competitions. The safety and well being of all our members is the most important factor to take into consideration, and until everyone has received their two vaccinations, we must accept that social distancing on the green is essential. All the necessary Covid precautions must be kept in place for this season. I really do hope that we can have some bowling this season and that by next year we are able to operate under more 'normal' circumstances. I wish you all well and look forward to meeting up with you on the green some time soon.

Mike Beloe (President)
